Emulsification is the function of one kind of liquid dispersing uniformly in another immiscible liquid with very small droplets. Emulsification is a phenomenon of liquid-liquid interface. Two immiscible liquids, such as oil and water, are divided into two layers in the container. The oil with low density is in the upper layer, and the water with high density is in the lower layer. If proper surfactant is added, the oil will be dispersed in water under strong stirring to form emulsion, which is called emulsification. Under the action of ultrasonic energy, two or more immiscible liquids can be mixed together, and a liquid can be dispersed evenly in another liquid to form emulsion liquid, which is called ultrasonic emulsification. Ultrasonic emulsification technology has been widely used in food, paper, coating, chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, petroleum, metallurgy and other industrial fields.
The emulsion is a dispersion of two immiscible liquids, one of which is dispersed into another liquid in the form of fine droplets or particles, forming a mixed liquid. The process of dispersing one immiscible liquid into another immiscible liquid is called emulsification. The formation of emulsion requires the necessary process of liquid emulsification, which uses mechanical shear force to break up the dispersion of large droplets in continuous phase.
Ultrasonic emulsification is a technical means of emulsification, that is, the high-frequency vibration is applied to the tool head by ultrasonic transducer, so that two kinds of non dissolving liquids are mixed to form emulsion. Compared with the traditional emulsification technology, that is, conventional mechanical agitation, ultrasonic treatment can produce smaller size droplets. The number of surfactants needed to provide stable emulsion by ultrasonic emulsification is usually lower than other technologies.
Ultrasonic liquid treatment process includes ultrasonic emulsification, sterilization, dispersion and homogenization, etc. These ultrasonic processes are widely used in the production and preparation of cosmetics and personal care products, drugs, nano materials and fuel industries.
